Private tour to Delphi from Athens
250.00 €

    FULL DAY 250€

Delphi lies at the foot of Mount Parnassus, 185 kilometres south of Athens. In ancient times the area was called Pytho and there were many legends centred around Delphi — it was Apollo’s sacred city and home to the legendary oracle of Delphi.

The archaeological site of Delphi is one of the most important in Greece, and the ancient Greeks believed it to be the centre of the world. Legend has it that it is here high up in the slopes of Mount Parnassus, the world′s most powerful and famous oracle resided.

When ancient Greeks and Romans had to make important decisions, they believed in seeking the answers from the words of wisdom spoken by the oracles. The most influential voice was the one of the oracle of Delphi who belonged to a holy woman, named Pythia. It is through the voice of Pythia that the gods would send their message. The voyage to Delphi wasn′t an easy one, yet thousands of people would travel long and far to get the answers they were looking for.

No critical decision was ever taken before consulting Pythia, and it is thanks to her prestige that Delphi became the richest and most famous Hellenic sanctuary which the Greeks called omphalos, meaning “navel of the world.”

At the archaeological site of Delphi visitors may also admire the temple of Apollo, the ancient theater which opens up to the spectacular view of the entire sanctuary, the ancient stadium which was originally built in the 5th century B.C. and has been reconstructed several times during the centuries, the sanctuary of Athena Pronaia with the Tholos, among other treasuries which embellish the sacred way. We will also visit the archaeological museum which displays many important Greek artifacts from the excavations found in Delphi.

During the winter season the modern ski resort of Arachova which is located in a close proximity from the archaeological site of Delphi is a popular weekend destination among the Athenians. Greece is an all year round tourism destination.

On our way back from the archaeological site of Delphi we will visit the port of Piraeus where you can taste authentic Greek cuisine in one of the local restaurants by the sea. At the end of the full day sightseeing tour we will return you to your hotel.
