After visiting the Acropolis which is often referred to as the “sacred rock” we will head towards the new Acropolis Museum which is located at the foot of the Acropolis’ southern slope. This modern archaeological museum showcases some of the most important treasures of ancient Greek art. Here visitors can admire the sacred sculptures from the of Athena Polias on the Acropolis, architectural sculptures of Archaic buildings, as well as the mesmerising Caryatids from the Erechtheion.
Within a walking distance from the new Acropolis Museum lies the Temple of Olympian Zeus, which was the biggest temple in Greece during the Hellenic and Roman period. Next on our sightseeing tour we will visit the Panathenaic Stadium where the first Modern Olympic Games were held in 1896.The Panathenaic Stadium which is also known as the Kallimármaro meaning “beautifully marbled” is the world’s only stadium made entirely of marble.
We will then make our way towards the Hellenic Parliament which is housed in the Old Royal Palace overlooking the Syntagma Square. In front of the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, every hour of the day spectators can enjoy the changing of the presidential guards where the Evzones perform a perfectly synchronized ceremonial.
For the best view of Athens we will take you to the Lycabettus Hill, where you can admire the breathtaking view of the Acropolis and the surrounding areas of Athens, take some photos and enjoy a nice cup of Greek coffee or an iced coffee drink known as the frappe.
After a well deserved break we will take a neoclassical turn and show you a different side of Greece, passing by the buildings of the Academy of Athens, a cultural center of knowledge and civilization. Our next stop will be at the National Archaeological Museum of Athens, one of the greatest museums in the world that houses some of the most valuable treasures which are a bridge between the past and the present.
After gaining a wealth of experiences and memories we recommend a lunch in a traditional Greek restaurant by the sea in the city of Piraeus, the biggest port in the country.
At the end of your memorable experience of discovering Athens and its hidden gems, we will return to the starting point of our tour.
