Mycenae is one of the most important archaeological sites in Greece, and is located 90 kilometres from the city of Athens. The prefecture of Argolida in the Peloponnese, is home to some of the most important historical sites.

The ruins of the Mycenae Acropolis date back to a “glorious age” between the 14th and 13th century BC when the Mycenaean civilization was at its peak of power, influence and artistic expression.

Among the remaining ruins which stand here today, the most important are: the Treasury of Atreus which is the most famous Beehive tomb or Tholos tomb in Greece, also sometimes referred to as the Tomb of Clytemnestra and the Lion Gate which dominates the entrance to the Bronze Age citadel of Mycenae.

During our full day sightseeing tour we will also visit the Ancient Theatre of Epidaurus, which is located 55 kilometres from Mycenae in the Sanctuary of Asklepios.  It is here that various artistic, athletic and theatrical contests took place to worship the god of medicine, Asklepios. During the Roman period when other theatres were modified, the Theatre of Epidaurus is the only one that managed to preserve its original form and character. Today the theatre is the best preserved monument of the Sanctuary of Asklepios and has a seating capacity for 14,000 people. During the summer months visitors may enjoy a number of performances of ancient Greek comedies and tragedies.

The Asklipeion of Epidaurus was one of the greatest theurgical sites in antiquity and gained tremendous fame for its unique healing practices. Patients with serious health problems were cured in this blessed land with beautiful natural landscapes and ideal climatic conditions. Today the monument acts as a standing proof of the medical evolution which was discovered here.

Next we will visit the charming and picturesque town of Nafplion which is set 40 kilometres from Epidaurus. It is here that you can admire the fortress of Bourtzi which stands proudly on a small island in the middle of the sea. During the summe, the island hosts the Summer Music Festival which has become a great attraction for the visitors who can access this historical site by boat from the port of Nafplion.

The town of Nafplion was the first capital of modern Greece, today it is dominated by the impressive Palamidi Castle which was built by the Venetians in 1714. The view from up here is simply breathtaking.

After your memorable experience of discovering the unique sites of Mycenae, Epidaurus and Nafplion, we will return to the starting point of our tour.
